Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the TrailWise AI mobile application operated by AI4U LLC.

Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using TrailWise AI, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the app.

Description of Service

TrailWise AI is a mobile application that provides:

A searchable catalog of hiking trails with route maps, photos, descriptions, and statistics
AI-powered trail analysis and recommendations
14-day weather forecasts for trailheads, with hiking-suitability scoring
Illustrated section maps for marquee Appalachian Trail segments
Optional GPS hike tracking and an activity log
Saved trails and reviews
Push notifications for trail conditions, comments, and community activity (opt-in)

Subscription and Free Trial

TrailWise AI is offered as a paid subscription. New subscribers are eligible for a 7-day free trial. After the trial ends, your subscription will automatically renew at the price shown at the time of purchase, unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Current pricing:

Monthly: $4.99 USD per month
Annual: $29.99 USD per year

Subscriptions are billed by Apple and managed through your Apple ID. You can view, manage, or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings → [your Apple ID] → Subscriptions on your iOS device. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; no partial refunds are issued for unused time.

Prices are subject to change. We will notify subscribers of any price increase at least 30 days in advance and obtain consent where required by Apple's policies. Sales tax or VAT may apply based on your location.

Payment, Refunds, and Disputes

All payments are processed by Apple under their standard App Store terms. Refund requests must be submitted to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not have the ability to issue refunds for App Store purchases.

Accounts and Authentication

An account is required to use TrailWise AI. You can sign in using:

Apple Sign-In — authenticates using your Apple ID
Google Sign-In — authenticates using your Google account
Email Magic Link — passwordless sign-in via a one-time link sent to your email

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. You must not share your account or allow others to access it. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

User Conduct

By using TrailWise AI, you agree to:

Submit reviews and hike notes in good faith — do not fabricate, plagiarize, or misrepresent your hike experiences
Post only content that you own or have permission to share
Not post content that is offensive, harassing, threatening, defamatory, discriminatory, or sexually explicit
Not spam, post advertisements, or engage in deceptive practices
Not impersonate other users, public figures, land managers, or governments
Not use the app to encourage illegal activity, including trespass on private land or restricted areas
Not attempt to collect, harvest, or scrape other users' data

We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.

User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of all content you create and share through TrailWise AI, including hike logs, photos, reviews, and notes. By submitting content to TrailWise AI, you grant AI4U LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and reproduce your content within the app, on the TrailWise AI website, and for reasonable promotional purposes (such as featuring a hike in app screenshots or social posts).

You may edit or delete your content at any time. Removal may not be immediate from all caches or backups.

By using the app, you also grant AI4U LLC a license to use anonymized and aggregated data (e.g., regional trail popularity, completion rates) to improve our services and the trail catalog.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the app's profile settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, hike history, photos, reviews, saved trails, and follow relationships. Account deletion does not cancel your subscription — you must cancel separately in your Apple ID Subscriptions settings to stop renewal.

Trail and Weather Data Disclaimer

Trail information shown in TrailWise AI — including GPS routes, distances, difficulty ratings, descriptions, and features — is provided for general informational purposes. Sources include OpenStreetMap (under ODbL), public-domain government data, and editorial curation. Conditions on the ground may differ. You are solely responsible for your safety on the trail.

Weather forecasts are predictive estimates from third-party providers and may be inaccurate. Always check current local conditions before hiking.

AI trail analysis is generated by Google's Gemini language model and represents a best-effort interpretation of trail metadata. AI output may contain errors, omissions, or hallucinations. Do not rely solely on AI output to make decisions affecting your safety, time, or finances. Always cross-reference with current official sources (park rangers, land manager websites, ranger stations).

User Responsibilities

You agree to:

Use the app in compliance with all applicable laws, park regulations, and land-use rules
Carry adequate gear, navigation, and water for any hike you undertake
Not rely solely on the app for navigation in the backcountry — bring a paper map and physical compass for any non-trivial hike
Not use the app while driving
Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app
Not use the app for any unlawful purpose

Privacy

Your use of TrailWise AI is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Third-Party Services

TrailWise AI uses third-party services including Supabase (data and auth), RevenueCat (subscriptions), Apple Sign-In and Google Sign-In (authentication), Apple Maps (map tiles), OpenStreetMap (trail GPS data), WeatherAPI.com (weather), Google Gemini (AI), Expo (push notifications), and Cloudflare (edge hosting). We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or reliability of these third-party services.

Intellectual Property

The app, including its content, features, logo, illustrated maps, and functionality, is owned by AI4U LLC and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the app without our written permission.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AI4U LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from:

Your use of or inability to use the app
Errors or inaccuracies in trail data, weather forecasts, or AI analysis
Personal injury or property damage related to your use of the app or the trails it describes
Any unauthorized access to your data
Any interruption or cessation of the service
Content posted by other users
Actions taken by other users

Disclaimer of Warranties

The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any trail, weather, or AI-generated information.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AI4U LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the app, your content, or violation of these Terms.

Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the app at any time, without prior notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties, or for any other reason at our sole discretion. You may delete your account at any time as described above.

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or by other means. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
